On Sunday, the main event unfolds: the Taygetos Marathon, a grueling yet rewarding 40km mountain race that climbs to an impressive elevation gain of 2500 meters. The course winds through olive groves and pine forests, following ancient donkey tracks and trails, before leading you along the vertiginous Vyros Gorge – reaching heights of up to 850m into the snow-capped foothills of the Taygetos Mountains.
The race begins on Kardamyli's picturesque shores, where the Messinian Sea meets a charming Greek town. Participants are treated to five nights' accommodation at an excellent hotel in Kardamyli, complete with breakfast each morning.
