The 10 in 10 and Challenge5

About the Event

The annual 10 in 10 Challenge, organized by the MS Society UK, invites walkers and runners to explore some of England’s most breathtaking landscapes while raising funds for research into Multiple Sclerosis. This year marks the eleventh iteration of this inspiring event, which began as a personal mission by Yvonne Booth after her husband Duncan was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2010.
The full challenge spans ten peaks within the Lake District over an arduous yet rewarding ten-hour period. Participants can opt for the more manageable Challenge5 route, covering five of these majestic mountains but still offering a significant test of endurance and determination. Both routes start and finish at Swinside Inn near Keswick, where participants will receive their numbers and waterproof maps upon registration between 6:30 am and 9:00 am.
The ten peaks include Causey Pike, Sail, Crag Hill, Wandope, Whiteless Pike, High Snockrigg, Robinson, Dale Head, High Spy, and Maiden Moor. Each peak presents a unique challenge with varying elevations ranging from 453 meters to over 672 meters above sea level.
For those opting for the Challenge5 route, they will traverse Causey Pike (637m), Scar Crags (672m), Outerside (568m), Stile End (447m) and Barrow (455m). This approximately eight-mile journey is no less demanding; it includes steep ascents and rugged terrain, requiring participants to be well-prepared for the unpredictable weather conditions of the Lake District.
Participants are encouraged to raise at least £250 through sponsorships, with all proceeds going towards vital research into Multiple Sclerosis. The event also offers an additional option: the No Cure Always Hope Ultra Run, a 37-mile fell running challenge that includes scaling no fewer than 26 peaks and climbing over 17,000 feet in elevation.
The spirit of this event is one of resilience and hope, reflecting the perseverance shown by those living with multiple sclerosis. As participants lace up their boots for another year’s journey through these iconic landscapes, they are not just walking or running; they are making a tangible difference in the lives affected by MS.
Participants can purchase XCover to secure a refund if unforeseen circumstances prevent them from attending, ensuring that everyone who signs up has peace of mind and an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to this cause.

Scenic view of

Keswick is the northern tourist hub of the Lake District National Park and is a favourite base for serious walkers and climbers, artists and photographers, and anyone who enjoys mountain and lake scenery. A thriving town of individual shops, including many selling outdoor equipment, art galleries, delis, cafes, restaurants and pubs, Keswick is a great place to collapse at the end of a long walk and eat a hearty meal. It also has many attractions to occupy visitors on a rainy day when heading up into the hills is not the thing to do.
