Since its inception in 1916, the Troy Turkey Trot has become an integral part of Thanksgiving celebrations in Troy, New York. This year's edition on November 26, 2026, promises to be another memorable day filled with community spirit and a dedication to giving back. The race offers multiple distances to suit all participants: a competitive 10K for those looking to push their limits, a family-friendly 5K that welcomes runners of various abilities, as well as the Grade School Mile designed specifically for young athletes. Additionally, there's the Community Turkey Walk, an inclusive event where families and friends can come together without the pressure of racing. The route takes participants through scenic Troy streets, offering glimpses of historic architecture and vibrant neighborhoods. The atmosphere is electric with the sounds of cheering spectators lining the course, creating a festive and supportive environment for runners at every turn. In addition to the races themselves, this year’s event aims to raise significant funds for local nonprofits such as the Regional Food Bank of NENY and Joseph's House and Shelter. Participants are encouraged to support these causes by making an additional donation or setting up their own fundraising page when they register. Registration fees vary depending on the distance and time of sign-up, with discounts available for early birds. The 10K costs $35 in September, increasing slightly as race day approaches. Similarly, the 5K starts at $30 but also sees a price increase closer to November 26th. Both the Grade School Mile and Community Turkey Walk have their own pricing tiers. Those who raise substantial funds through individual or team efforts will be rewarded with unique opportunities: top fundraisers are invited on stage alongside Mayor Mantello and special guests for an honor of sounding the air horn at race start, while winners also get a chance to attend the post-race charity check presentation ceremony. The most successful teams receive free entries into next year’s Troy Turkey Trot. Join us in making this Thanksgiving morning a day filled with community pride and charitable giving!
