On Thursday, August 20, 2026, Cobourg's beloved Strong Kids Duathlon celebrates its milestone 18th anniversary with an exciting expansion to Campbellford. Organized by the YMCA Northumberland, this summer tradition is more than just a race; it’s a vibrant community event that brings families and friends together for a day of fun and fitness. This year, participants will support two crucial programs: The Essential Mothers of Newborns Program and initiatives aimed at expanding children's programming in Northumberland. These efforts are designed to foster health, wellness, and confidence among local babies, kids, youth, and their families. With the goal of raising $10,000 through sponsorships and race registrations, this event aims to create a stronger community for all. The Strong Kids Duathlon is open to children aged 3 to 15 years old, offering six different age groups with unique distances tailored specifically for each group's abilities. Young athletes will swim in the Centennial Pool before transitioning into Victoria Park for their run segment. The event promises an energetic atmosphere as family and friends cheer on participants from start to finish. Check-in begins at 5:00 PM, with races kicking off promptly at 5:45 PM and wrapping up by 8:00 PM. Each participant will receive a finisher's ribbon upon completion of the race, symbolizing their accomplishment in more than just athletic achievement but also community spirit. Whether you're an experienced young athlete or new to competition, this event offers something special for everyone involved. The Strong Kids Duathlon is not about winning; it’s about coming together as a community and celebrating the joy of being active and supporting one another. Join us on August 20th at Cobourg Waterfront and Campbellford Y, where every step counts towards making a difference in your local community. Registration for this year's event costs $18 per child, with no YMCA membership required to participate. Don't miss the opportunity to be part of an empowering celebration that highlights hope, unity, and the strength found within our communities. See you at the starting line!
