Bennachie Ultra Marathon

About the Event

The 8th edition of the Bennachie Ultra Marathon invites runners to conquer Scotland’s most iconic hill. The race starts and finishes at the scenic Bennachie Visitors Centre, offering participants an unforgettable journey through some of the best trails that this prominent North East Scottish landmark has to offer.
This challenging off-road event spans a distance of 50 kilometers (over 31 miles) with over 5,000 feet of elevation gain. The course winds its way across several peaks including Millstone Hill, Hermit Seat, Oxen Craig, Little Oxen, Craigshannoch, and Mither Tap – providing breathtaking views at every turn.
Given the demanding nature of the terrain and the time of year, a strict 4-hour cut-off is imposed after approximately 19 miles to ensure safety for both runners and marshals. Participants must adhere strictly to this timeline to avoid disqualification.
The race supports two local charities: COTAG and The Bennachie Visitor Centre. Both organizations will benefit from the proceeds generated by this non-profit event, ensuring that your participation makes a positive impact.
To enter, you must be 18 years or older on the day of the race. This inclusive event welcomes runners regardless of gender identity, including transgender individuals who can compete in the category they identify with. The Bennachie Ultra Marathon adheres to the Rules and Regulations set by Scottish Hill Runners (SHR).
Pre-entry is mandatory for this race, with no refunds or deferrals allowed. However, swaps are permitted until August 31st. For any changes to your registration details, please contact info@cgm-ultra.co.uk.
The course is not suitable for wheelchair users and requires runners to carry essential safety gear throughout the event: a waterproof full body cover, hat, gloves, and whistle. A kit check will be conducted at various points along the route to ensure compliance with this requirement.
Additional rules include no external support or running poles during the race, as well as prohibitions on dogs accompanying runners and littering. The organizers have opted for an eco-friendly approach by providing water in containers rather than disposable cups at designated stations.
Upon completion of your run, you can enjoy refreshments at the Bennachie Visitors Centre along with a finisher's medal and goodie bag. Toilets will be available near the start/finish area to accommodate participants' needs throughout the day.
Registration opens at 6:30 AM on Saturday, October 10th, 2026, followed by the race starting promptly at 8:00 AM. Photo ID is required for number collection and all runners must present their own numbers; no proxy running will be tolerated.
For more information or assistance with your registration, please contact info@cgm-ultra.co.uk.
Join us this autumn to experience one of Scotland’s most challenging yet rewarding ultra marathons!

Scenic view of

Aberdeenshire is a county in the north east of Scotland. It's a long way north - the coastline around Fraserburgh is further north than Newfoundland - but it's mostly lowland, fertile and productive, having more in common with the central belt of Scotland than with the Highlands. To the west rise the Grampian Mountains, with the scenic River Dee flowing out.
