About the Event

Bute Highland Games 10K Road Race
The Organising Committee of Bute Highland Games is thrilled to confirm that this year's event will take place on August 22, 2026. The 10K race has become a beloved staple in the running community, known for its breathtaking route along Scotland’s stunning coastline.
Participants start at the Games' Stadium around 3:00 PM and make their way through Bute's charming town center before heading northward alongside the coast road. Spectacular views of the Clyde estuary, Loch Striven, and Kyles of Bute await runners as they pass by Skeoch Woods and Ardbeg Point en route to Port Bannatyne. The race then retraces its path back towards the Stadium finish line, with enthusiastic spectators cheering every step of the way.
Competitors can look forward to a range of prizes for both male and female athletes in various categories:
- General Categories:
- First Prize (£95)
- Second Prize (£75)
- Third Prize (£55)
- Fourth Prize (£35)
For veteran runners aged 40 or over on the day, additional awards are available:

- Fastest Veteran Men (1st prize £50, 2nd prize £40)
- Fastest Veteran Women (1st prize £50, 2nd prize £40)
Local competitors also have a chance to win:
- First Local Man (£35)
- First Local Woman (£35)
In addition, the first male and female finishers will receive the prestigious Rhubodach Salver. The local winners of each gender category are awarded with the Rhubodach Quaich. These trophies remain in possession of the Bute Highland Games Committee after a celebratory photo session.
To enhance your race experience, we continue to use an advanced ‘Chip to Chip’ timing system integrated into participants' numbers for immediate and accurate results.
Post-race amenities include changing facilities and showers at the nearby Leisure Centre which will be available until 6:00 PM. Please note that in-ear headphones are not permitted during the race, but bone-conducting earphones are allowed.

The Isle of Bute is an island in the Firth of Clyde, off the west coast of Scotland. Rothesay is the main town. It is part of the "Costa Clyde" or "Glasgow Riviera", the string of little resorts stretching down the Clyde coast from Gourock through Ayr to Girvan.
