Simon Wake Comrie Hills Relay

The inaugural Scottish Hill Relay Championships, set for 20th July 2026, marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter in hill running. Organized by Strathearn Harriers and taking place in Comrie village, this unique relay race spans a total distance of 43 kilometers with over 1700 meters of ascent across four challenging stages.
The route winds through the picturesque Glen Lednock, offering runners a mix of rugged mountain terrain and technical trail routes. Legs two and three are particularly demanding, featuring rough hillsides that test even the most seasoned athletes. Meanwhile, legs one and four provide equally formidable challenges but in more traditional off-road settings, ensuring no runner is left untested.
Teams will be issued with electronic timing devices known as "dibbers," which must be used to clock in at each stage's checkpoint before being passed on for the next leg. This system guarantees accurate times upon reaching Laggan Park and ensures all data can be downloaded immediately post-race, enhancing both organization and transparency.
The event honors Simon Wake, a beloved member of Strathearn Harriers who was passionate about youth sport and hill running until his untimely passing in 2008. Proceeds from the race will support Junior Hill Running initiatives across Scotland, fostering the next generation's interest in this exhilarating discipline.
Safety is paramount for all participants and marshals alike. All runners must carry essential safety equipment on legs two and three — including maps, compasses, whistles, waterproof gear, hats, and gloves — to ensure they can navigate challenging conditions safely. Kit checks will be conducted along the route to verify compliance with these requirements.
