Stort30

About the Event

Immerse yourself in a picturesque ultra running experience along the River Stort and Lee navigation's border between Hertfordshire and Essex. This stunning 30-mile course offers runners an opportunity to explore serene trails, grassy paths, and scenic riverside routes that wind through charming landscapes.
The race begins at Bishop’s Stortford Running Club (Hockerill Sports and Social Club) on October 25th, 2026, with a generous start time of 8:30am. The first half of the course is flat and fast, covering 15 miles out before turning around to retrace your steps back to the starting point. This layout provides runners with ample opportunities to enjoy the beauty of nature while pushing their limits.
Runners will encounter a mix of graded gravel paths and riverside trails, which can become muddy or wet if it rains prior to race day. The terrain is forgiving overall but requires careful navigation through sections that may be slippery when conditions are damp. To ensure you stay on track, the route is well-marked with signs at every turn.
A series of checkpoints will provide essential hydration and nutrition throughout your journey. These CPs offer water, squash, basic sweets, snacks, and occasionally some cake or other treats. Vegetarian/vegan options as well as gluten-free choices are available but cannot be guaranteed free from cross-contamination; runners with allergies should consult staff at the checkpoint for assistance.
Cut-off times ensure that all participants can complete their journey safely within a set timeframe: 4 hours to reach the turnaround point and an overall limit of 8 hours. If you find yourself lagging behind these deadlines, race officials will assist in getting you back to the start/finish line efficiently.
Upon arrival at Bishop’s Stortford Running Club for registration between 7:00am-8:10am on event day, collect your number and route description before attending a crucial briefing at 8:15am. The race is timed electronically with live results available online as each finisher crosses the line.
All runners who complete this challenging yet rewarding course will receive a commemorative medal to celebrate their achievement. Post-race refreshments including tea, coffee, soft drinks, and even a chance for some cold beverages at the clubhouse bar await you upon crossing the finish line.
Entries close on October 11th, 2026, with early bird discounts available depending on when your registration is completed. Please note that parking regulations must be adhered to avoid disruption in local communities; drop-offs and pick-ups only are permitted near Bishop’s Stortford Running Club while the main car park can be found at the nearby train station.
Join us for an unforgettable ultra running adventure where stunning scenery meets competitive spirit along the River Stort!
