The Last Duel Trail Race Brought to you by Fife Athletic Club & Kirkcaldy Wizards, The Last Duel Trail Race is set for Sunday, 23rd August 2026. This year marks the 200th anniversary of Scotland's last pistol duel, and runners will have a unique opportunity to trace history as they run past its exact location. Registration opens at Corrie Centre on race day from 9:15 AM until 10:15 AM when entries close for good. A briefing is scheduled at the start line just before 10:20 AM, with an official start time of 10:30 AM sharp. The entry deadline is midnight on August 9th, and there will be no late registrations. The race itself covers approximately 5.7 miles through Cardenden Woods, a landscape rich in history and natural beauty. Starting from the playpark next to Cardenden Primary School, runners will embark on a trail that winds up farm tracks into dense woodland. The route is peppered with diverse terrain, featuring steep ascents, rocky paths, muddy stretches, and even a small timber bridge. Experienced hill and trail runners will appreciate the challenge while newcomers can revel in the scenic vistas and historic significance of each step. Participants are advised to wear suitable footwear as most of the course remains off-road, sometimes extremely so. Trail shoes or boots with good grip are recommended due to potential mud and rocks along the way. The race entry fee is £17.00, offering a discount for Scottish Athletics members who pay only £14. In case unforeseen circumstances prevent the event from taking place on August 23rd, organizers will reschedule without additional fees or penalties for participants. All entries are non-refundable but can be transferred to the following year's race should you need to withdraw this time around. Contact Mark Buchan at [thelastdueltrail@outlook.com](mailto:thelastdueltrail@outlook.com) if any changes are required. Limited parking is available near Corrie Centre, though it’s recommended that runners park at Cardenden Primary School due to space constraints and easier access. Remember not to block driveways while doing so. There will be no changing facilities on-site; please arrive dressed for the race with appropriate gear. The organizers do not take responsibility for lost clothing or equipment during registration or the event itself. Refreshments await runners after their efforts at Corrie Centre, where they can enjoy a well-deserved break and socialize with fellow participants. All finishers will receive a unique medal as part of their rewards, alongside cash prizes awarded to first, second, and third place male and female winners. For more information or updates on race day conditions, follow Fife Athletic Club and The Last Duel Trail Race Facebook pages where results will be published post-race. The event is open to runners aged 16 years and older who are physically fit enough to complete the distance. Runners must adhere to SAL rules throughout the competition and participate at their own risk without liability from organizers for any accidents or injuries sustained during the race. Join us on August 23rd, 2026, as we celebrate a remarkable piece of Scottish history through an unforgettable trail running experience in Cardenden Woods.
